Why Your Savings Differ From the Open Roads App
Updated
If you use the Open Roads app, you may notice that its “You Saved” figure for a fill-up is a little higher than the net savings MyFuelSavings shows for the same stop. Both are reading the same fill-up. They count one fee differently.
Two Ways to Count Fees
The Open Roads app’s “You Saved” takes the program’s transaction fee out of your discount. The flat fee charged on each fill-up appears on its own line and isn’t taken out.
MyFuelSavings takes out every fee on your statement, including that flat fee. You wouldn’t pay it if you filled up without the program, so it counts as part of the cost of using the program. How Your Savings Are Calculated explains the full method.
So for any fill-up, the gap between the two figures is that flat fee. The same reason explains why the fee total in MyFuelSavings is higher.
Neither number is wrong. They answer slightly different questions.
A Cent Here and There
Now and then a total in the Open Roads app can differ from your settlement statement by a cent, because of how fractions of a cent are rounded. MyFuelSavings uses the amounts on your settlement statement, so where the two differ by a cent, your statement is the reference.
Checking a Fill-Up Yourself
- Open Statements in MyFuelSavings.
- Open the year, then the month, then the statement.
- Open the fill-up to see its discount, each fee and your net savings.
- Compare each line with the same fill-up on your settlement statement.
If a line doesn’t match your statement, send us a message and tell us which statement and fill-up it is.
